I am a classically trained painter who explores the quiet connections that define our humanity. My work has been shown at the Glave Kocen Gallery in Richmond, among other venues, and has won awards from local art organizations.
I am a member of the Portrait Society of America, Montgomery Art Association, and the Rockville Art League, for which I am the Membership Coordinator.
My work depicts the quiet poetry and hidden narratives in everyday moments. With a muted palette, soft edgework, and attention to light, I seek to reveal the humanity of my subjects. Through allegory, I explore social and political undercurrents that shape our world.
When I see interactions between people, or expressions on the faces of individuals, I wonder what lies beneath: Is that pair focused on each other, on their devices, or both? How does it feel to leave a cherished home behind?
I see light – reflected on the planes of a face, casting shadows in a room, or radiating through the clouds – and marvel at how it elevates the ordinary. Light can heighten an emotion, such as sorrow; it can bring a face into focus or seem to dissolve it.
My concerns about society – inequities, injustice, and more – are expressed through the subjects I choose and the deeper, multiple meanings that make their way into my paintings.
Ultimately, it is the small, quiet moments of life that most interest me. My paintings invite you in, softly, to witness people in their less guarded moments, to question assumptions, and to see the connections that make us human. Painting these connections reaffirms my hope for humanity, and that is a comfort.
